What are you voting for?

Patrick Henry used this phrase in his last public speech, given in March 1799, where he said, "Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs."

America was founded on this principle that we want to be free to choose. That every human being has a right to vote, and that the government should be established by and for the people.

I honor your right to vote for Trump. I honor your right to vote for Biden. I honor your right to be pro-life. I honor your right to support the LBGTQ+ community. I honor your right to be democrat, or liberal, or republican. We ALL have the right to have an opinion and vote. I have no problem if my brother, my sister, or my neighbor votes differently than me.

I do have a problem that families are being divided. Communities are being divided. Congregations are being divided. Friendships are being divided. Our nation is being divided in the name of pride.

When I talk to people about their political decisions, I have found that many people are voting out of their pain. Whatever issue has caused them the greatest amount of pain, that is the most important issue they are voting for. When I realize that all people have come to their decisions based on their life challenges, I can only honor and accept their choice. I cannot judge, criticize, or have any desire to change them. Continuing to tear each other down, will only divide us. It is COMPASSION and HUMILITY that will bring this country back together.

Who will stand UNITED to say all people have a right to vote?

Who will stand UNITED in FAITH, not FEAR?

Who will stand UNITED in LOVE of his neighbor, not HATE?

Who will stand UNITED in ACCEPTANCE, not JUDGMENT?

Who will stand UNITED in HOPE, not DESPAIR?

I hope that as a heart-based community, we can stand with our brother, our neighbor, our husband, or friend, and love and support each other as we keep this country united. Please show in your actions and treatment of others that you are voting for the UNITED States of America.
